dynaSight Printing Basics
Although
we live in the internet age where electronic
documents
are commonly used in business, printing still
plays a critical
role in many BI applications. Because of
the fact that dynaSight
runs as a Java applet in your browser, printing
is a very tricky
business. Nevertheless, in order to meet
the requirements of
some of your demanding projects you must
be able to master
all printing functionalities...and there
are many!
You need to understand the basics of how printing
works. In order to be able
to print your documents the first thing
to understand is how to define
a print region in dynaSight.
The first step is to select all objects on the document
that are to be printed. You see them
as selected when they all have the selection
frame as in Fig. 1.

Fig. 1
Once that is done, you need to go to File->Page
Layout->Define
Print Range as shown
in Fig. 2. Then Save the document.

Fig. 2
The effect of this is that dynaSight has created
an imaginary rectangle.
The top of this rectangle is defined
by the upper most object that you had
selected.
The bottom is defined by the bottom most
object you had selected. The left and
right
borders of the rectangle were defined
by the leftmost and rightmost objects
you
had selected respectively.
It is important to note that the printing rectangle
is nevertheless independent
of the objects you selected. dynaSight
only uses those objects to define the
rectangle
and nothing more. Should you move any
of those objects outside the rectangle
they will not be printed. If you move
them further into the rectangle they
WILL be printed but you might see a large
margin.
All objects outside this rectangle will not be printed or eventually
on an extra page.
In addition, here are two important points that we can recommend
from experience:
1) Make a template for your print documents where
you create a header (and possibly
a footer) at the top (or bottom) of the
document with the appropriate
information (date, report name, etc.)
and company or department logo.
Decide whether you want to print horizontally
or vertically. Arrange the objects correctly
on the page and then select them. At
this point you can define the print
range and the print rectangle will be
fixed. You must place any future objects
within this rectangle if you want them
to print. Do not forget to save the
document after defining the print range.
2)
Test the document printing at first with
empty objects. In other words, with
no
data. This will give you a clear idea
if the layout and print region are
working correctly.
